For the first time, one of the main valuables transportation companies in the country opts for automatic transmissions for its high-value cargo transportation trucks. The Allison Automatics were chosen for the agility provided to the vehicle, their robustness, and the ability to extend the transmission and the life of engine components
SÃO PAULO - January 2021 - Operating in the securities transportation market since 1971, the Protege Group maintains a pilot project for armored cash transport trucks equipped with Allison automatic transmissions to make its operations
more efficient and productive. Present in 18 Brazilian States as well as in the Federal District, the company carries out a wide range of activities that include high-value cargo transport services and cargo logistics, property security, security
guards and airport services. With a fleet of approximately 1,800 units, including vehicles of various sizes and purposes, for the first time, the company has invested in two armored cash transport trucks with Allison fully automatic transmissions.
"The Protege Group invests heavily in the well-being and safety of its employees, and automatic transmissions greatly reduce the physical and mental wear on the driver," explains Nelson Dias, Automotive Engineering Manager at the Protege Group. "The state
of alertness for a prompt reaction in any critical situation is a fundamental condition for good work in our segment."
At the moment, Protege has two armored high-value cargo trucks equipped with Allison 2000 Series™ automatic transmissions under evaluation - a Volkswagen 9.160CE and a Mercedes-Benz 915 E - and both are exceeding the company's expectations.
“Automatic trucks have been shown to be less stressful for drivers and for the respective working teams, as they are not subject to the “swings” so common during the shifting in manual transmission gears,” said Dias. “It
is unanimous among the teams that operate the automatic trucks, the conviction of less physical wear and tear throughout the workday.”
Another finding of the Protege Group is the shorter downtime. Automatic transmissions reduce downtime as they do not require clutch systems maintenance, which is common in manual transmissions. In addition, they provide more homogeneous operation of the
power train, avoiding engine overdrive while acting as auxiliaries to the brake system.
Allison 2000 Series automatic transmissions are designed to equip light commercial vehicles for both cargo and public transport applications. They can be equipped with a Power Take-Off (PTO) output and have six gears, including overdrive, which guarantees
a more agile and simpler operation. They also have advanced 5th Generation electronic controls, which improve productivity and efficiency strategies that meet most of the different needs of vehicle operators.
