Allison Transmission inspects 170 fire vehicles at 25 Seoul Fire Department fire stations.
SEOUL, October 7, 2022 — Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional and electrified vehicle propulsion solutions and the largest global manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty fully automatic transmissions
for commercial and defense vehicles, announced today that it recently conducted a free inspection of 170 fire vehicles equipped with fully automatic transmissions operated by 25 Seoul Fire Department fire stations.
"Considering firefighters’ duty of arriving at the scene of accidents on time, securing excellent mobility is critical," said Ki-baek Kwon, Head of the Equipment Maintenance Team at Seoul Metropolitan Fire & Disaster Headquarters. "We deeply
appreciate Allison Transmission’s free inspection service to help our firefighting truck drivers focus on driving, preventing accidents and dispatching the necessary support to the scene on time."
Professional mechanics from Allison visited 25 fire stations in Seoul to check the performance, maintenance status and Allison Approved transmission fluid levels of fire vehicles operated by each fire station. In addition, Allison educated the maintenance
workers at each fire station on how to maintain fully automatic transmissions in the summer season.
Since 2003, Allison has been providing fully automatic transmissions to various types of firefighting vehicles, including medium-sized pumps, large pumps, ladder trucks and rescue vehicles in Korea. For fire trucks, speed, safety and performance are critically
important. Allison fully automatic transmissions are engineered to deliver superior acceleration for fast response times and better maneuverability on crowded city streets. Depending on the engine and model of the firefighting vehicle, fire trucks
adopt Allison Automatics including its 1000, 2500, 3000, 3200 and 4500 models.
"Alison is proud to operate training programs for mechanics and drivers in support of the National Fire Agency," said Kyoungmee Lee, Regional Director of Allison Transmission. "We hope the inspection service will improve the durability and reliability
of each fire station."
Emergency vehicles like fire trucks and ambulances are among the vehicles that must quickly arrive at scenes that frequently involve matters of life and death. Allison has spent decades designing and building fully automatic transmissions that perform
at their best in critical situations. Allison Continuous Power Technology™ also enables firefighting vehicles to arrive quickly for rescue. This technology helps maximize the fuel efficiency of fire trucks. In particular, the torque converter
technology increases engine torque to improve starting performance and has excellent acceleration responsiveness and productivity. The seamless and simultaneous operations between moving and firefighting are another reason Allison transmissions are
preferred for emergency vehicles.
Through this, the fire engine can be dispatched to the scene of the accident in the shortest time without wasting any additional time for shifting gears. In addition, Allison fully automatic transmissions are equipped with inching controls to help fire
trucks quickly access the site without power loss. Unlike manual and automated manual transmissions, the fully automatic transmission will deliver unparalleled performance in high pressure duty cycles in fire and emergency situations.
